As part of DesignPhiladelphia’s 2026 Festival, Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture presents home:bodies, a dynamic architectural installation tucked away on Village of Industry & Art’s grounds.
DesignPhiladelphia evokes the contours of home:bodies and sets the scene for visitors:
“The installation begins with a simple gesture. Fabric drapes on a 144-sqft structure, which is the size of a micro-home. Attached to the fabric are treasured ceramic, glass, and metal objects that you can reposition. By pulling, pushing, tying, or holding the objects, you alter the fabric, allowing it to gather, sag, stretch, and envelop space in continually evolving configurations.
“This installation uses textiles as primary architectural elements whose form remains intentionally unresolved until activated through inhabitation. Inspired by the long history of textiles as adaptable shelters and environmental mediators, the project remembers a simple idea: a home is something we continually shape, and in turn, it shapes us.”
home:bodies will be on view from Oct. 1 through Oct. 11 at VIA.
